NORTHWEST PORTLAND
Northwest Portland has a variety of different neighborhoods located within its boundaries and many different living options. City living in the Pearl. Vibrant community and history in the Alphabet District. Or Tualatin Valley views from the hills of the Forest Heights Community.
ALPHABET DISTRICT
Northwest Portland is also referred to as the Alphabet District. This catch all phrase captures the area from W. Burnside Rd up to Upshur St. The streets are oriented in alphabetic order from city founder names. The cross streets are numbered from NW 1st up to 34th Ave. This section of town centers around NW 23rd’s trendy boutiques and restaurants. Historic craftsmen homes reside next to vintage apartment buildings with timeless charm. As you continue West from 23rd Ave the alphabet grid transitions to winding streets with view homes a short distance to Forest Park trails.
The northern part of this area dubbed Slabtown has seen a flurry of recent development with new condominium buildings and fun retail options. The Alphabet is in high demand due to the vibrant, urban feel within short walking distance and less density than the Pearl. Tourists and locals alike are drawn to the mix of upscale and eclectic shopping. There are scores of bars, Salt N Straw’s ice cream, Breakside Brewing and numerous fabulous restaurant options like Fireside, Serratto and Besaws.
PEARL DISTRICT
Technically located within the Alphabet District the Pearl District has its own distinction. Just north of downtown between West Burnside and NW Broadway, The Pearl District features high-rise condominiums and warehouse-to-loft conversions. Formerly home to warehouses, light industry and railroad yards it is now full of trendy restaurants, lively bars and boutique shopping. A walkers paradise, tie up your shoes and walk to Powell’s City of Books, Deschutes and 10 Barrel Brewpubs, Whole Foods, West Elm and some of Portland’s best restaurants, like Mediterranean Exploration, Piazza Italia and Yama Sushi.
FOREST HEIGHTS
Over the hill from the Alphabet District and Forest Park, the neighborhood of Forest Heights is the West Hills’ premier planned community. Surrounded by the natural beauty of large trees and green space, this beautiful community occupies 600+ acres and has more than 1,600 single family and town homes many with views of the Tualatin Valley.
The community boasts six miles of trails and 215 acres of common area. Residents also love nearby amenities such as Mill Pond Park with its pond and playground. Many residents are drawn to the community for top-rated schools like Forest Park Elementary and West Sylvan Middle. A convenient retail area is located in the center of the neighborhood.
